Hey guys! I’m back from my road trip :)

I had a great time camping and seeing new sights of New England with my hubby & Beans. We did so much in just a few days. It was really nice to get away, be unplugged, enjoy nature, and just relax. I never realized how beautiful Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont really are. What gorgeous states!

To give you an idea of where I went, I plugged some of our stops into Google Maps. Here’s a little visual.

Wednesday: Bar Harbor & Acadia, ME

We set off on Wednesday for Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor was such a cute little town by the water! We did some shopping here, and I even found an “I love my Italian Greyhound” car magnet in a pet store. Beans was pleased 😉

We also decided to get dinner in town as well due to every place advertising their lobster rolls. The hubby could not resist.

Acadia National Park is a big attraction there too, and it’s actually an island. We camped there for the night. Here’s our cozy set up.

Unfortunately, a main road that goes through the park was closed until just a few days after we were there, so we barely got to see any of the park, which is supposed to be really beautiful.

It didn’t really matter anyway since this was our view most the time we were there…

Awesome view, right?

Not such an awesome view, right?

We were a little disappointed, but we did get to see this neat beach, which made up for it a little.

Sand Beach, Acadia

It was pretty amazing to be on the beach and be in the woods at the same time. That doesn’t happen very often! I would definitely like to trek back up to Acadia someday when you can actually see the park.

Thursday: Saco River, NH

The next day we didn’t have any plans except to find a spot to camp along the Saco River in New Hampshire and chill out.  We didn’t have a spot picked out for camping, which undoubtedly made me a little nervous. Hubs, of course, goes for it and loves the adventure!

We ended up driving around some spots along the river but found that many places were private property with scary no trespassing signs. We randomly stopped and asked a guy walking along the road with his dog about good places to camp. He told us to go down to the end of the very road we were on for a great camping spot by the river. So random but so lucky!

But in order to get to this spot, we basically had to 4-wheel it through mud to get there. I was a little shaken up (literally), but we made it to this amazing & secluded spot by the river.

Saco River, NH

Buuut, as soon as we got there, it started raining & had to set everything up in the rain. :( Thankfully, right before we left Acadia, we picked up an extra tarp just to use as a “roof” so we could still enjoy being outside. This came in handy for this spot and the next.

Saco River CampingAfter we got everything set up, it didn’t rain for the rest of the night though. We enjoyed the fire, some reading, watching Beans explore (and admittedly learn to be an “outdoor” dog for the first time), beer, and marshmallows, of course. It was really nice, quality time with the hubby and all the river bugs. Seriously, we almost got eaten alive by bugs here…

It was so nice to camp in the “real outdoors” along the river instead of at a campground. I think the hubby was pretty proud that we found this spot too. Really roughin’ it!

I also wanted to take a second to thank both Danica & Heather for their guest posts while I was gone. You guys did a great job and I’m so thankful for your posts! If you missed them, you can check them out here:

Also, thanks for bearing with me while I was gone. I realized a couple of my links were not working and Danica’s guest post didn’t even publish properly! Oops!

I was assuming that I would have cell service and be able to check in on the blog way more than I did. I ended up having little to NO service at most the places we visited. That’s why there was no FIMF post – whoops! FIMF will resume this Friday :)

Look for part II of my trip tomorrow!
