Hey guys! How have you been?
Last week, I went to the Dominican Republic with my husband for a little last-minute getaway! We were there from last Saturday to last Friday. I had such a great time just relaxing, enjoying the weather, and being with my hubby.
We stayed at an all-inclusive resort to make things easy. It was a cheaper one, but still pretty nice. Here was our room.
Nothing super fancy, but it was fine with me.
Some stuff we did for the week was…
Spend lots of time on the beach or at the pool. They had these beaches in front of the actual beach with cabanas and beds all over the place. People would come up and take your food and drink orders.
One day, we spent the entire day here pretty much. It was awesome!
Eat at the buffet or going out to dinner. I will admit that the food was not the best. Because it was at a resort, it was all kind of Americanized. And because it was being mass-produced, none of it was that great of quality.
My typical breakfast looked like this: bacon, a “croissant” (really just a bread roll in the shape of a croissant) with butter and jam, and pineapple/cantaloupe.
Something I found odd was that the only fruit they had was pineapple, cantaloupe, bananas and sometimes watermelon or honeydew melon. I was hoping for some strawberries but I guess they only use locally grown fruits. By the end of the trip, I was pretty done with the food. But it wasn’t terrible.
We went on a snorkeling excursion that was awesome! I wasn’t able to get any pictures of it. I left the camera behind since I figured it would get wet if I brought it (duh). We were bussed away from the resort about 45 minutes. We went on the excursion with a couple of other people and a guide.
It was actually really different, but we took a boat to a different place in the ocean to snorkel. We were just in the middle of the ocean, quite far from the shore but you could see all the way to the bottom. They also told us to bring a water bottle full of bread to attract the fish. The fish were literally swarming us to get that bread!
There were fish all over and you could see 30 feet below you into the ocean. It was so clear and really neat.
Drink… a lot. Drinks were included!
Because they were included, I didn’t know how they would be, but they were so good. I think I had my fair share of Pina Coladas for the year!
We went horseback riding. It was just a quick trip because it was free.
It was fun, but it made me sad to see the horses locked up all day. They were pretty grumpy too, so I felt they weren’t cared for very well.
We also went to nightly entertainment, like dancing or parties put on by the resort. We just hung out a lot. I read 1.5 books, which was awesome! All week the weather was about 8ish, and mostly sunny. Toward the end of the week, it got a little overcast, but I didn’t really mind since we had been out in the sun so much anyway.
This was my first time travelling to another country (besides Canada and Mexico). I was a little nervous, but I actually felt very safe the whole time. The DR is not the most developed country, but the people were very nice so I never felt unsafe.
I would have to say this has been the best vacation I’ve been on. I’m so glad we got to go! But now it’s back to reality!
